·     Umpires will be at the site 15 minutes before the game.

  • 5 minutes before the game check that game will start at the appointed time. That includes having their equipment ready, game balls are at hand and the field and teams are ready. That includes reviewing ground rules and checking the time. The first pitch should happen at the scheduled time. The next inning starts when the 3rd out is made at the bottom of the previous inning

  • The Umpire uniform will be a navy blue collared shirt or a PAL umpire shirt, khaki pants or shorts, white socks.

  • The plate umpire shall wear a mask, chest protector and shin guards. Base umpires will have a red flag for signaling leaving early.

  • As a member of the PAL Umpire staff, if you are at the field and there is a problem of somebody missing or late, you will help out and fill in.

  • Once you accept an assignment, you own it. If there is a real emergency, call me. Otherwise see if you can swap or get somebody else to cover.

  • It is important keep the game moving. Do not socialize between innings. Do not sit on the chest protector. Act like you are in charge. The pitcher gets 8 warm up tosses and the break between innings should be no longer than 2 minutes.

  • Make your calls loud and clear. Being in position is critical.

  • Any extraordinary event, including but not limited to ejections, forfeits or unusual calls, should be reported to me as soon as possible. If there is a real problem, seek either myself, Mr. Aucoin, Mr. Quealy or another member of PAL Board, if you need adult intervention.
